Dr. Jesús López-Baeza is an architect and urban scientist whose work explores how location-based data can help explain the relationship between urban form, human activity, and the way cities evolve. His research combines urban morphology, geospatial analysis, simulation, and large-scale behavioural data to study questions of social cohesion, livability, identity, perception, sustainability, urban growth and decline, mobility, and pedestrian movement.

He graduated in Architecture from the University of Alicante in 2015 before specialising in urban science and data analytics through his Master's degree (2016) and PhD (2020). He joined HafenCity University Hamburg in 2017 as a Research Associate and later became Science Lead of the Digital City Science group (2020–2023). During this period, he led and contributed to applied research and innovation projects funded by the European Commission, German national programmes, international consortia, private companies, and public administrations across Europe.

After returning to Spain in 2023, he worked on location intelligence and expansion strategies for the JD Sports and Sprinter retail networks before joining MB3 Gestión. He currently leads the Urban and Regional Solutions unit, where he develops digital twins, territorial data spaces, urban intelligence systems, and analytical platforms that support evidence-based planning and decision-making for cities and regions.

Alongside his professional work, he has collaborated with SPIN Unit in Helsinki and Tallinn since 2016 on urban research projects and has taught in the Bachelor of Urban Planning programme at the Gengdan Institute of Beijing University of Technology since 2017, in addition to delivering workshops and lectures at universities and international conferences.

His work bridges academic research and professional practice, translating advances in urban science into methods and tools that can be applied by governments, planners, and organisations. His research has informed planning and policy in cities across Europe and beyond, and has been published in leading international journals and presented at conferences worldwide.
