This timeline traces three strands that have developed in parallel throughout my career: professional practice, academic research, and teaching. Rather than replacing one another, these experiences have continuously informed each other — from university research and international collaborations to consultancy projects and classroom discussions. Explore the timeline to see how they intersect, overlap, and evolve over time.

The filters drive both views at once. Hover a city to see what happened there and light up the matching rows beside it; hover a row to find its city. Point size is the number of entries in that city. Scroll to zoom, drag to pan.

PublicationsiHow many publications fall inside the filters currently applied.
ProjectsiHow many projects fall inside the filters currently applied.
EventsiLectures, courses, workshops and conference appearances inside the current filters.
CitiesiDistinct cities among the selected entries. Only entries that carry coordinates are counted.
CountriesiDistinct countries among the selected entries that carry coordinates.
InstitutionsiDistinct organisations across every selected track: employers, hosts and universities alike.
Publication rateiPublications divided by the years they actually span — first publication to now — rather than by the whole axis, which would understate it. With a year selection active, that selection is the denominator.
Last full yeariPublications in the last complete calendar year, against the year before it. The current year is excluded because it is still running.
Busiest yeariThe single year holding the most entries of any kind — publications, projects and events counted together. Switching a track off takes it out of the sum.
Active yearsiHow many distinct years contain at least one publication.
EmployersiDistinct organisations on the Practice track — the places that have employed him.
Project rateiProjects divided by the years they span, on the same basis as the publication rate.
Projects, last yriProjects in the last complete calendar year, against the year before it.
Work abroadiThe share of selected entries outside whichever country appears most often in the selection. The home country is derived from the data, so it changes as you filter.
Career elapsediFrom the first year of employment to retirement at 67, using the birth year in the box beside this label. Edit it and the bar recalculates.
Breadth of outputiNormalised Shannon entropy over the mix of publication types, event types and project hosts. 0 means everything sits in one category; 1 means an even spread across all of them.
Publications by typeiPublications split by kind — journal article, book chapter and so on. Each spoke is a kind, and the further the shape reaches along it, the more there are.
Events by typeiEvents split by kind — conference, workshop, masterclass and so on, on the same basis as the chart beside it.
